Skincare Ritual

I recommend that you create a moment in time to do your skincare ritual. Daily skincare rituals are ways that we can slow down, and take the opportunity to be present with our mind, body and spirit.

When thinking about your skincare routine, does it bring you peace or stress?

In my practice I find that clients rush through their skincare regimen because it is another thing on the ‘to-do’ list. This approach will leave you in your fight or flight mode aka your sympathetic nervous system. The brain is wired to find what is wrong and correct. This mindset will eventually lead to burn out and avoidance.

I tell my clients in my practice “don’t think of your skincare as a regimen, but as a ritual.” A ritual that activates your parasympathetic nervous, aka your ‘rest and digest’ mode. Our body enters a state of relaxation, and this relaxation breeds recovery for the mind, body and spirit. And… guess what organ reaps the benefits- you guessed it, your skin.

Here are my best tips to create mindful supportive skincare rituals that take less than seven minutes in the morning & evening:

✷ Put on your favorite playlist before your evening ritual. ( you can also check out the RWF Studio Playlist HERE )

✷ Set your intention for your ritual

✷ Look at yourself in the mirror and say aloud your positive skin affirmation

✷ Take 5 deep diaphragmatic breaths. In through the nose, out through the mouth. Like you're trying to push out all the air in your body

✷ Gently massage your cleansing oil on dry skin and for at least 1 minute

✷ Apply foaming cleanser over top and massage with the oil still on the skin for an additional minute

✷ Remove with a steamed facial cloth using warm water. Linger here by holding the warm cloth on the face

✷ Apply toning mist (option to Ice Face if acne prone)

✷ Apply your treatment serum while the skin is damp

✷ Apply eye treatment

✷ Apply moisturizer (Apply SPF if day time)

✷ Option to apply a beauty oil or balm.  Incorporate massage techniques to encourage lymphatic drainage, massage muscular fascia and connective tissue to support your skin’s natural function.

Creating a new habit is better if you look to it as a reward for yourself for all that you do in a day:

“I _______ plan to tend to myself by doing my skin ritual each morning and evening. I will strive to do this a minimum of ____ times a week, eventually daily. I am enhancing and healing these aspects of my skin: ________. I support my skin health through consistency.”

Making a commitment to slow down and be intentional about your skincare ritual will do more than just cleanse your skin, you’ll also cleanse your soul & release trapped emotions that contribute to sluggish tired inflamed skin.
